Let’s start us off by saying I don't leave food reviews unless the food is that good. This place is better than good. We got the half grilled chicken with yellow rice and the Saturday special which was a mix of seafood, meat, vegetables and rice. Everything was seasoned to perfection. The chicken had us chewing on the bones just so we get every last bit of seasoning. (The breast was a little bit overcooked but still tasted amazing.) The portion size was a lot for the price considering all the other restaurants today skimps you on food. The guy taking the order was an older uncle who was very nice and accommodating. The customers walking into the restaurant greeted us and made us feel at home. I have nothing bad to say about the experience at the restaurant. The two things I can see people complaining about is the outdated interior and the wait time on certain items (lamb shank takes long to cook) but that does not matter when the food more than makes up for it.

My first time eating African food and I loved everything I had. More so the waitress was awesome helping me and my friend who flew in from FL because he seen a video about them go viral. The hidden gem is the juice they make. The berry mint and ginger juice were easily my favorite. The chicken had so much flavor and was juicy. The portion sizes were very large and even being full I wanted to keep eating because it tasted so good. Loved the fried plantains & both appetizers. A hole in the wall place that packs some serious flavor! Great place! ********UPDATE******************* Went back with some friends from FL and service was even better if I could give 10stars I would. The owner was there as well so we got a picture and even tried a new juice they make.

My first time yesterday. I absolutely love the jollof rice as it reminds me of a really good fried rice. Wasn’t too salty or anything. Close to perfect. The fataya if that’s the name was an easy 10/10. Spice was perfect and the little onion sauce that came with it was on point. The grilled red snapper however was my main target as it is one of my favorite fish. I don’t think it was grilled but fried then prolly put on flame. Idk but didn’t seemed or tasted grill to me. The snapper was also a bit over cooked so a little too dry for me. The seasoning was a little too salty but the sauce did its thing. I really love this food and will be back. Hopefully next time I can request my snapper to be cooked less and less salt and would’ve been perfect.

The Cons: The parking sucks. The review: We went to Matys on a Sunday afternoon. There was no wait, and the owner came to our table to take our order. Our food took about 15 minutes to come and it smelled heavenly. We had the Egg rolls, Chicken Yassa & Red Snapper. The food was so flavorful and piping hot and fresh. The meala come with a side (we both had Jollof), and a side of sauteed onions in a zesty, delicious sauce. They give you a FREE bottle of water upon seating, which is nice because this food packs a little heat (spice) to it. Friendly atmosphere, good food. I hugged our waitress! I definitely recommend it.

Super delicious food and great prices. One dish of peanut stew was enough for 3 people. And the tilapia was superb. Authentic, affordable, and immensely tasty.
